Braxton's Botox

Today went pretty good. We got to Akron Children's at 7:30 to begin the Botox injections. The nurses there are all so great and they know he gets worked up over the IV's so they gave him some Verset to calm him. They had to give it to him through the nose so it would work quicker. They said it would burn and he was not happy about that. It did calm him down some so they went to put the IV in. He still got worked up and tense so they had a hard time. 3rd time was a charm. By that point either the Verset was working or he was worn out from crying from the IV's. He was very calm at this point. The anesthesiologist came in and I expressed that i didn't like the drug they used the last time because of the long recovery and wanted to go back to the first drug they used for his first botox - which was Ketamine. He was OK with that and also added another med for pain. This time went much much better. Braxton got all 12 shots in his legs and didn't cry once. And he was only in recovery for 30 min after he woke up instead of 2 1/2 hrs like last time. Guess mommy knows what is best for my little guy. There was only one side effect, he got sick a little in the afternoon. But by night time he was playing as if nothing happened. He even told Brian " Daddy I went to the hospital today" Brian said oh yea how did it go. Braxton said "I got some shots today."

Since he recovered so well, his specialist suggested we get fitted for his swash brace that Dr R recommended we get for him. So, he is all fitted and it will be in on the 23rd.

Thanks to everyone who was thinking about our little guy today.
